The Planning Department undertakes the pre-design and design development activities for the overall development of Hulhumale’ as well as for smaller projects undertaken by the Company. The Department is also responsible for ensuring adherence to the urban development regulations and guidelines governing all developments in Hulhumale’. The Department’s activities are managed within three sections; the Planning Section, the Building Controls Section and the Surveying Section.
Through consultation with relevant government authorities and other stakeholders, the Planning Section is responsible for the review and subsequent revisions of the master plan of Hulhumale’, based on prevailing environmental and urban conditions within the region and any other future considerations.
The monitoring of the urban design master plan to ensure proper adherence to the design guidelines is conducted by the Building Controls Section. All approvals for drawings of buildings to be developed in Hulhumale’ is processed from this Section.
The Surveying Section undertakes the physical surveying of all projects planned for Hulhumale’. Primary and Secondary traverse and benchmarks are set up across the island by surveying staff of the Section.
