144,000 m² of land at the Southern outskirts of Hulhumale’ city has been allocated for industrial use by the HDC.
This industrial area is designed to meet the needs of multiple industries within one assigned location and plots are available from four designated zones. Zone 1 is dedicated to fish and food related activities; zone 2 accommodates warehouses and other light industrial activities; zone 3 contains workshops, carpentries and other similar activities and zone 4 is allocated for nuisance activities that do not directly fit into the other three zones.
Activities are already being carried out in certain shares of all four zones and the inactive areas are expected to be gradually released for use over the years.
The HDC is not directly involved with the developments that occur in these industrial zones. Instead, the company plays more of a facilitator role, opening up the land for lease by the private sector and acts as a regulator, ensuring that development guidelines are adhered to. Investment opportunities within the industrial zones are open to both local and foreign investors.
