Hulhumale’ development aims to encourage the use of public transportation as one of the primary modes of transportation in the island. Types of public transport available at present include:
Ferry Service
A ferry service is operated by Maldives Transport and Contracting Company Plc. Ltd. (MTCC). It is conducted between Male’ and Hulhumale’ and operates daily between 5.30am-1.30am with ferries every half an hour leaving both from the Male' and Hulhumale' terminals. The average carrying capacity of the ferries is 110 people per boat and 2-wheel vehicles can also be transported in these ferries.

Bus Service (HDC Bus Service)
HDC has taken the initiative to establish a public land transport system within Hulhumale' and has implemented a shuttle bus that runs between the ferry terminal in Hulhumale' and the first neighbourhood. The bus schedule is set to coincide with the ferry arrivals and departures.

Taxi
Taxi services are available throughout Hulhumale' and taxis can be obtained by phone or hailing one from the streets. Rates are fixed for single trips to one destination but rates for multiple trips can be negotiated on an hourly basis.
